Below is a little guide to my favourite spots to eat in Manhattan. I left the city not wanting to return, but as I write this, I can't stop thinking about going back

*Breakfast
Café Sabarsky
A beautiful and cozy Viennese café with a vintage charm inside the Neue Galerie. My idea of a perfect breakfast on the Upper East Side, before visiting the Met, the Guggenheim, or Zitomer—my favorite pharmacy.
Order: Bavarian sausages with warm pretzel & sweet mustard (and the Sachertorte!)

Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop
Comforting breakfast classics and an old-school, authentic NYC atmosphere. Nothing fancy! So happy places like this are still open in the city.
Order: Egg and Cheese on a roll

Chelsea Hotel
A historic spot in Chelsea. I stayed here right after its reopening and was so excited that I wrote about it for Condé Nast Traveler.
Order: The omelette with roasted potatoes, or the gigantic french toast if you are feeling naughty.

Apollo Bagels
Apparently the best bagels in NYC at the moment (though who knows in two weeks). The queue on a Saturday morning is a who’s who of the West Village.
Order: Everything bagel with scallion cream cheese

Café Cluny
I love this cute, cozy café in the West Village.
Order: Ricotta pancakes, Avocado toast.

Lenwich
A reliable NYC deli chain for delicious morning sandwiches. I know it’s not a cute spot, but I promise the sandwiches are worth it.
Order: Egg sandwich with bacon, or the Turkey, avocado, and bacon.

Hawa Smoothies
A low-key spot I discovered by accident while staying across the street at the Moore Hotel. I just love their ‘Hot Passion’ smoothie!
Order: The Hot Passion: Strawberry, blueberry, banana and peanut butter.

*Lunch/Dinner
The Odeon
I first discovered this spot because Lena Dunham has their logo tattooed lol, but I genuinely love the food, the people, and the vibe. It’s run by the same owners as Café Luxembourg on the West Side, which I also like.
Order: Croque monsieur, the mac and cheese, the roast chicken

Lodi
I’m a big fan of Ignacio Mattos, and I love this gem in Midtown—great for a casual but refined meal. Also, check out Estela and Altro Paradiso in the West Village.
Order: Prosciutto and fig sandwich.

ABC Kitchen
Cute restaurant, fresh ingredients and a farmhouse vibe (what could go wrong?) Conveniently located near Rescue Spa, where I stock up on Biologique Recherche and EltaMD sunscreen.
Order: The star of the show is their Caramel popcorn sundae. Trust me.

Cipriani Downtown
This is a bit of a show-off spot, but I promise it’s good! It still maintains a very classic vibe. I prefer this location to their Upper East Side counterpart; it’s beautiful, especially when the light streams through the big windows.
Order: Tagliolini with ham and cream, the vanilla meringue cake, and a Bellini, of course.

Via Carota
Craving a trip to Italy? This is it.
Order: Zucchini Fritti, Carciofi Alla Romana, and literally any pasta on the menu.

Lucien
A cozy French bistro in the East Village.
Order: Steak frites

Bar Piti
Quite authentic rustic Italian dishes. I once brought my own pasta seasoning and they almost killed me. Apparently, it's a celebrity hotspot, but I’ve never spotted any. Heads up: they only take cash.
Order: Rigatoni Pitti

Jack’s Wife Freda
When I’m feeling nostalgic I come here for a mediterranean comfort meal
Order: Peri Peri Chicken, the Fried Zucchini Coins, Roasted Cauliflower.

Keens Steakhouse
Looking for a legendary old-school steakhouse? Come here.
Order: The green salad, THE STEAK, the Bloody Mary, and the key lime pie!

Cafe Habana
Classic Mexican on Prince Street. I remember coming here the first time I was in NYC, and it’s still going strong.
Order: Grilled corn with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, chili powder & lime

Omen Azen
My friend Carlota took me to this minimalist spot in Soho. Very low key but good Japanese food.
Order: Soba noodles with tempura

Il Cantinori
Do you remember that SATC episode? I hope you do, because the only reason I came here was to celebrate my birthday ‘alla Carrie’. Turns out the food is delicious, and the romantic vibe was on point <3

Homemade-style baked goods. A bit like Magnolia but much better quality.

Bemelmans Bar (The Carlyle)
Iconic Upper East Side spot. So beautiful, it has a crazy line to get in. Apparently, the trick is to enter through the hotel and say you're staying there.

Sophisticated Midtown cocktail bar with classic drinks.

Overstory
My friend Pablo took me to this rooftop bar in the Financial District with crazy views of the city. It’s perfect for the sunset hour.

Best gay bar in the city with the best dive bar food!

Expendio de Maíz
One of the best discoveries from our trip, and completely by chance—no one recommended it. It’s a tiny cantina with just a little terrace and five tables. There’s no menu; they use organic ingredients and celebrate corn in all its forms. The food is absolutely incredible. They serve ‘surprise’ dishes, so you just need to let them know if you’ve got any allergies or don’t fancy chapulines (that’s grasshoppers).

Afterwards, take a stroll over to Colonia Condesa and stop at Churrería El Moro or Nevería Roxy—or pop into El Parnita or Páramo (on the same street) for a ‘drinkesito’.

Maizajo Taquería
Culinary Nirvana. A unique fusion of tradition and innovation. What began as a tortilla shop and corn research center has evolved into a taco stand that operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The wait is part of the experience—watch the taqueros in action, and build up your appetite. Don’t miss their famous Taco Campechano with Rib Eye. I also recommend trying one costra-style (griddled cheese on top—so good).

Speaking about tacos- Orinoco and El Califa are often called ‘los tacos fresas’ (bougie in Mexican slang) However, when I visited, I had absolutely no complaints so don’t feel bad if you go there! They are also very good. From the same owners of Orinoco you can also try Canton Mexicali 廣東墨西加利, the equivalent of bougie Mexican-Chinese food, delicious.

If you’re visiting during lunchtime, hop in an Uber and head to Barragán’s Convento de las Capuchinas, which is, in my opinion, his most beautiful work. You’ll need to call ahead and be a bit persistent to get in. Before you leave, you can buy a jar of homemade honey from the nuns.

Contramar
An absolute must in CDMX—always buzzing with energy. The tuna tacos and tuna tostadas are the stars of the show—they practically melt in your mouth.

If you’re a fan of Gabriela Cámara’s work, make sure to try Castacán as well. The menu features tacos, tortas, and starters inspired by castacán (crispy pork belly).

Beforehand, stop by Galería Mascota to check out a contemporary art exhibition.

Máximo Bistrot
A warehouse-style space in Roma that’s still cosy—perfect for dinner and sharing a few dishes. It’s right next to the OMR Gallery and Casa Bosques, an art and design bookshop.

Le Tachinomi Desu
A Japanese standing bar serving natural wines and sake. It’s tiny, and they only serve dinner with a daily menu. My favourites? The fried chicken (deli), truffle fries, and omurice.

Beforehand, visit Javier Senosiain’s Casa Orgánica and, on your way back, pass by Barragán and Mathias Goeritz’s Satellite Towers.

Amanda Manda
One of my faves in la Roma. Amanda cooks up her specialities in a laid-back, communal setting. The project was designed by artist and architect Luis Úrculo and produced by creative studio Niños Héroes, based between Mexico City and Madrid.

The quesadillas, tacos, green bean salad, and sesame schnitzel are all very good. And if you’re feeling nostalgic (Spanish only), Amanda’s potato salad and tortilla are perfection.

Afterwards, wander down to Casa Gilardi (Barragán) and the Kurimanzutto Gallery.

Paris 16 Bistró
A small hidden restaurant that has been open for more than 25 years. Located on the ground floor of one of Mario Pani’s iconic buildings on Paseo de la Reforma, this modest spot never disappoints. Whether you opt for the soup of the day, their sandwiches, or their veal milanesas—served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach—you’ll leave satisfied. Everything is absolutely delicious (but order the milanesa for me please!!)

Before you can pop by Ago Projects, a nearby gallery for collectible design and art.

Cariñito Tacos
This trendy street-side taco spot is all about pork belly tacos with a Southeast Asian twist. They serve them straight out of a window and only have four on the menu (I still think about their Cantonese one). They regularly invite chefs from around the world to add to the menu.

I you are hungry for more tacos also check out Siembra Taqueria in Polanco and Tacos Atarantados in la Roma.

I’d finish things off at Helados Cometa (just two blocks away) with a honey, yoghurt, and pistachio ice cream—or maybe peanut and sesame.

La Ventana del Ticuchi
Inspired by Oaxacan cuisine, this spot serves almost entirely veggie dishes from a little window. Think esquites tamales (so good), tacos, aguas frescas, artisanal mezcal, and hearty stews.

Finish off with an ice cream again from Nevería Roxy but in Polanco, visit the Museo Jumex, or stroll through Chapultepec Park—and if you’re feeling naughty, grab some doricolos from a street vendor.

Molino El Pujol
The fast-food spin-off of El Pujol (a top fine-dining spot in Polanco). The highlights? The corn on the cob with chicatana ant mayo and the avocado tacos. You can even buy tortillas to take home or give as a gift.

Afterwards, you can visit design gallery Masa or grab an Uber to UNAM’s sculpture park, visit the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Studio Museum, and finish the night with dinner at San Ángel Inn.

Pizza Félix
My favourite Neapolitan pizzas in CDMX. They’ve got a lovely terrace, and it’s perfect for a drink after dinner. Also, their branding is cute—I begged for a T-shirt until I got one, haha. If there’s no space, try Lardo, and if you’re up for more drinks, pop over to Casa Franca.

Panadería Rosetta
Sure, it might be a bit of a touristy spot, but you have to try the guava roll—it’s delicious. You can enjoy it while heading to the Travesía Cuatro Gallery for an exhibition. (You can also go to Niddo or Café Milou for breakfast, both are nearby)

They also have an Italian restaurant under the same name (perfect for dinner on the terrace). Ideal if you need a break from all the corn and fancy some pasta.

Regarding Baja California, I have just a few tips after spending a day in La Paz before boarding our boat to the Sea of Cortez.

I’m finally back in Madrid after weeks of travelling (Amsterdam and New York guides coming soon – and, spoiler, even a playlist).

Since Covid, I’ve found myself visiting Paris far more often. So often, in fact, I like to say I ‘lived’ there for two months while working on an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. Truth be told, it was more like five weeks with plenty of back-and-forths, but please, just humour my little delusion :)

Regardless, it’s always a joy to visit, and although I know nobody really needs a Paris guide, here are a few of my favourite spots. *The Ultimate Joy Guide*

*Bakeries, Breakfast and Merienda spots

Chez Bogato
Right next to the Pompidou. I’d almost always grab lunch here on my break—their sandwiches and cookies never disappointed (try the chocolate sable).

Boulangerie Mamiche
Everything here is delicious, but my weakness is the Roulé Cannelle. It’s different from your typical American cinnamon roll—crispy and caramelised on top.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred
The brioche of my dreams—practically the size of my head and topped with pearl sugar eveeerrywhere! You could live on this for a day.

The French Bastards
This chain has brought me plenty of joy. I love their sandwiches, Kouign-Amann, and éclairs.

Pâtisserie Artisanale Utopie
I used to ‘live’ on the same street. Their bread and quiches are good, but my friend Joana recommended the Smoked Sesame Roll, and now I can’t stop thinking about going back for it. Also I want to go back to Folderol (just a few meters away) to grab some ice cream and a glass of wine, last year Rosalía celebrated her birthday there lol #hotspot

White Coffee and Kawa
Both in Le Marais, they’re perfect for a coffee on the go if you can’t take another step without your daily caffeine fix, or if you just fancy wandering around with an €8 drink. I confess I love the feeling, and I don’t even drink coffee.

Saint Pearl
A good spot for brunch I went before visiting the Luxembourg Gardens and the Cartier Foundation. Order their eggs Benedict burger.

Café de Flore
I know this is super touristic but going to any nice-looking café is my favourite way to people-watch, read a book, or… smoke? (We are in Paris after all) This is a classic, right across from Brasserie Lipp. There’s also a worth visiting stand nearby, Creperie St Germain, because there is nothing better than a crispy waffle with nutella and chantilly.

Hotel Costes
If Kim Kardashian can fly from LA to Paris just to have cake, then it’s at least worth a try. I can confirm that no one in Paris actually goes to Hotel Costes for cheesecake, but who cares—it’s good. You’ve got to follow Kim’s advice in almost everything.

*Restaurants and Bistros

Chez George
My absolute favourite. It’s a tiny space (I love a warm, buzzy feeling), with delicious food and the perfect local vibe. It’s a small, family-run spot where everyone’s seated close together and the food is to die for. Try the beef fillet steak with bearnaise sauce and french fries.

Le Voltaire
A bit on the high-end side, but the roast chicken here is unreal. Classic French elegance with an old-world feel, ideal for a special meal. Quite formal, so consider wearing a jacket.

Parcelles
I still remember their sage and butter gnocchi—soft and pillowy perfection. It’s a small little spot with just a few tables and fantastic food. Located in Le Marais, it’s ideal for a break between shopping.

Chez Janou
It’s often packed, so book in advance, but the duck is worth it! And don’t miss the bottomless chocolate mousse.

Le Café des Musées
My friend Claudia recommended this to me, and it’s an absolute dream for boeuf bourguignon with mashed potatoes—rich and hearty. It has an old school vibe and is not super pricey for Paris.

Le Cherche Midi
The pink tablecloths alone are worth it, but the pasta is really good. Perfect for a romantic carbicide.

Georges
Located on the top floor of the Pompidou Centre, it’s perfect for a lunch break between exhibitions. Be sure to ask for a table by the window for views of the entire city, and don’t miss the truffle rigatoni.

Le Quincy Bistro
My friend Hugo took us to celebrate my birthday last month, and it was quite an experience. It offers a super authentic bistro atmosphere; combining a relaxed vibe with a very very traditional French menu (that includes frog legs!), along with a curated wine list. Just a heads up—they only accept cash.

Maxim's
Iconic Art Nouveau institution in Rue Royale. I hadn’t planned on including it in the guide, but I can’t stop thinking about the profiteroles and strawberries in syrup—the best I’ve ever had. Totally over-the-top and a guilty pleasure.

*Sandwiches and fast (good) food

Le Petit Vendôme
One of the best jambon-beurre sandwiches in Paris.

Chez Alain Miam Miam
Another spot for a really good freshly made sandwich. Ideal for a quick lunch on the go in Le Marais.

Miznon
Yummy Israeli food. I always go for the sweet potato and cauliflower appetisers and the chicken pita— but everything is really good. I also love Dizen; definitely try the schnitzel there.

Super China
My friend Carmen recommended this to me. Chinese take out vibes with an option to eat inside. I went twice and enjoyed being seated by the window. The place is beautifully designed by Rudy Guénaire, and their fried rice and gyozas are delish.

Kadawi Ramen
Great ramen spot. Everything is homemade, and the broths are delicious—enough to bring you back to life. It is quite popular so avoid peak times.

PNY Burger
I don’t have much experience with burgers in Paris, but I really enjoyed these. If, like me, you tend to prefer chicken over beef go for their ‘Crispy Chicken’. Their Rue Sainte-Croix location in Le Marais is beautiful.

*To sip:

Bar Hemingway
You don’t need to stay at the Ritz to enjoy the iconic Bar Hemingway, it is known for serving the best martini in Paris.

L'Orillon
A cozy bar located in the Belleville neighborhood. My friend Claudia took us and it’s a great spot to unwind with friends and enjoy small plates and natural wines.

To Visit:

While you might want to visit some typical tourist attractions like the Louvre and Notre-Dame, if you come with me, I’d take you to:

Bourse de Commerce, Pinault Collection: Housed in a stunning former stock exchange, this venue displays a great collection of contemporary art. The architecture by Tadao Ando alone is worth the visit.

Palais de Tokyo: A huge space for art and experimental exhibitions. They have a great bookshop/store and café where you can have smth to eat if you need a break.

Cahiers d’Art: A charming little bookshop and gallery that focuses on art publications and modern works. I used to collect back issues of their iconic magazine.

Louis Vuitton Foundation: A stunning building that combines amazing exhibitions and architecture by Frank Gehry. Last time I was there, I rediscovered the work of Rothko, which was a highlight.

Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain: Housed in a beautiful glass building designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the space showcases great exhibitions set against a backdrop of lush greenery (you can even sit outside and read a book in their garden)

Galerie de Paléontologie et d’Anatomie Comparée: My friend Victoria, an art dealer who lived in Paris, recommended this hidden gem to me, and I’m forever grateful. It’s perfect for a summer day. Located within the Jardin des Plantes and housed in a beautiful historic building, it is filled with towering dinosaur skeletons.

Musée de l'Orangerie: Home to Monet’s famous Water Lilies. My favourites.

Le Corbusier Architecture Tour: Parisians are very lucky to have examples of Le Corbusier's modern design right at their doorstep. You can plan a one-day itinerary starting at the Fondation Le Corbusier and visiting iconic buildings like his studio apartment, Villa La Roche, and Villa Mallet-Stevens. You can also visit the Casa de Brasil, designed in collaboration with Lúcio Costa, as well as the Cité de Refuge.

Disneyland Paris: And, of course, if you're in the mood, head to Disneyland. I've only been twice, and I promise myself I’m going back to stay at one of their hotels. Don’t forget to try the Mickey-shaped pretzels! In fact, you should only eat Mickey-shaped food for the entire day.

E. Dehillerin
An iconic culinary supply store, the favourite of Julia Child! (also Martha Stewart) It’s a must-visit for anyone passionate about cooking.

La Trésorerie
A hardware store has everything you need for home and kitchen essentials.

Merci
Very famous concept store that combines fashion, homeware, and a café. I go every time just to have a look, even if I don’t buy anything.

*Food

G. Detou Paris
My happy place. I could easily spend an hour just browsing. Originally established in 1951 due to its proximity to the old Les Halles market it’s a go-to destination for both professional chefs and home cooks (like me).

IRASSHAI PARIS
I discovered this gem by accident one day when I couldn’t get into the Bourse de Commerce; it’s on the same block. It is a Japanese grocery and deli (you can have lunch there) and offers a good selection of ingredients, snacks, and ready-made sushi and bento boxes, all beautifully designed with their cute Japanese packaging.

*Skincare freaks

Elaine Hutzinger
The best facial in the city! Every visit is a treat. She's a master of facial cupping, lymphatic drainage, and Chinese medicinal treatments. Be sure to book in advance as she's extremely busy.

Ambassade Biologique Recherche
The place to go for those of us addicted to French skincare brand. You can get a skin analysis for free, although of course I always end up buying something.

Officine Universelle Buly 1803
The most charming apothecary—once you step inside, you’ll want everything. Trust me, especially the personalised lip balm, the combs, the brushes, the hand cream… I want it allll

Pharmacie Carré Opéra Chaussée d'Antin
A french pharmacy is the holy grail. I always pick up Biofine for burns, Cicaplast (they stock much more than in Spain), and A313 retinol. Plus, it’s just across from the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, which has an amazing floor dedicated to skincare/wellness.

*Fashion

I rarely buy new clothes, but I’m starting to think I should. Last time I visited The Broken Arm, The Frankie Shop, Le Maire, and of course, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s first store in Paris (just to browse I prom)

Also be sure to check out Marché aux Puces; it’s worth wandering around. If you need last-minute flowers, visit Castor Fleuriste—my friend Sol, whose mother is a florist, told me it’s one of the best in Paris. And for tuxedo rentals (I know it’s a bit unusual, but I wish someone had told me about it), stop by Au Cor de Chasse.

To stay:

Soho House Paris
I try to stay at SH whenever I can. You’ve got to book well in advance to snag a decent rate, but the comfort and cosiness here are spot-on. They specialise in making you never want to leave.

Hôtel Rochechouart
Beautiful Art Deco hotel just around the corner from Soho House in Pigalle. Rooms are reasonably priced and definitely worth it for what you get. I remember a good restaurant on the first floor and a great rooftop with views of Sacré-Cœur and the Eiffel Tower.

Hôtel Monsieur Aristide
A charming little hotel in Montmartre – everything’s quite small, but it’s good value for money.

L’hotel Caron De Beaumarchais
A budget-friendly boutique hotel in the Marais, perfect if you want to stay central.

Hoxton Hotel
Great vibe and central location. The best part was definitely the buzzy patio and the nice restaurant.

On my bucket list are Hôtel Amour, Château Voltaire, and, of course, the Ritz.

Airbnbs
That time I claimed I lived in Paris? Well, I stayed in this designy Airbnb right between Le Marais and République. I highly recommend it, plus it’s literally right across the street from Folderol and Utopie Bakery!

I’m pretty sure I swiped this recipe from Mob back in 2022, and I’ve been making it consistently ever since. Just made it today, desperately trying to finish the huge jar of gochujang I brought back from Seoul in August. Someone has to save it from itself, right?

400g Pasta (Rigatoni if you have it, or any other short pasta will do)
6 high-quality sausages (about 320g, but honestly, the more, the merrier. Picture me snacking on crispy bites throughout the recipe! yayy)
30g Butter
1 Shallot
3 Garlic Cloves
2 tbsp Gochujang paste
220ml Cream
2 Limes
2 tbsp Honey
30g Cilantro
15g Panko Breadcrumbs
40g Parmesan
Salt
Pepper
Olive Oil

1. Remove the casing from the sausages and fry them in a pan or wok with a little oil over medium-high heat until they are golden brown. You want them crispy and caramelized hehe so take your time! :)) Remove from the pan and set aside.

2. Add the butter, and when it starts to melt, add the shallot and garlic. Sauté for a couple of minutes until softened, then add the gochujang and cream. (I always seem to serve raw onion, so just make sure it's cooked through! 😅)

3. Stir in 30g of Parmesan cheese, the juice of two limes, and the honey. Let it simmer for about 3 minutes, then put the crispy sausage pieces back in. Stir everything well and let it simmer a bit more until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Cook the pasta. Once it's al dente, drain it and save a little bit of the cooking water. Add a small ladle of the cooking water to your pan and mix until the sauce becomes glossy. Keep tasting and add more water if needed, but be careful not to overdo it.

5. Add almost all the chopped cilantro to the pasta and mix (reserve some cilantro for the topping).

**To make the crunchy topping** (completely optional, but hey, this is the internet—we're here to impress you)

6. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and toast the panko breadcrumbs. Remove from heat, let it cool slightly, grate 10g of Parmesan cheese over it, and mix in the remaining chopped cilantro. Combine everything well. It sounds crazy, but they go surprisingly well together.

7. Plate the pasta with the crunchy cilantro topping and a little lime zest.

My favourite of the list! I loved the ambiance, the people, and the lighting. They release 12 original craft cocktails each season, and they were delicious—the snacks were great too, especially the cold noodles. Be sure to make a reservation and request a spot at the main bar; it's always entertaining to watch them in action.

It might seem a bit unexpected to have Italian food in Shanghai, but after two weeks in China, we were really craving it—and it did not disappoint. The place was packed with locals, and the food and drinks were amazing. Be sure to ask for a table by the window to enjoy views of the Bund.

The Shanghai EDITION

On our first night in Shanghai, we were craving a familiar spot to unwind. The Edition’s Punch Room felt like conquered territory. Make sure to book ahead, as it’s quite small, and ask for a table by the window to enjoy the Shanghai skyline.

I first wanted to say thank you to everyone who has already subscribed to this new site after I shared the news on Instagram. Do I have an official little corner of the Internet now?

I hadn’t been to Berlin since 2020 so when I had the opportunity to fly out for a few days for work, I took the chance to enjoy the city and visit some friends. Is there anything better than Berlin in the summer? It really comes alive, and strolling around on a bike (or rental scooter for lazy people like me) with the breeze in your face is quite something. It is definitely my favorite way to explore a city.

I know real Berliners (or annoying friends who lived there 10 years ago) have strong opinions about how the city has changed. Despite this, I feel Berlin still retains somehow its authentic vibe as a hub for underground culture and nightlife. Also, the city's architecture continually serves as a reminder of its history.

I hope you find this first guide of Berlin both enjoyable and useful.

Soho House Berlin
If you follow me on IG, you know I love Soho House and tend to stay there while I travel. You don’t have to be a member to book a room. This one has all the amenities we like: cozy rooms (with complimentary homemade cookies), a rooftop pool, cinema, gym and spa. On the ground floor, you’ll find a concept store and cafe open to the public as well as a Cecconi’s restaurant. The only downside is that you really don’t need to leave, and you can easily spend the entire day there!

Michelberger Hotel
This boutique hotel in Friedrichshain is a great choice if you want a cool and very "Berlin" place to stay without spending too much.

These are the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Period. There are no reservations, so get here early to avoid the queue. I regret not getting their famous McMuffin, hehe.

SOFI
A cute bakery in a quiet courtyard in Mitte. Expect a long queue here (is there anything more annoying?) I highly recommend their focaccia. I went there twice for a square.

Zeit für Brot

Best cinnamon rolls I had during my visit. Their chai, however, was quite shitty. In fact, I didn't find any decent chai in Berlin at all.

Wen Cheng’s
A great choice for a casual and budget-friendly lunch or dinner. The noodles come in a garlicky chili oil sauce with your choice of toppings, including lamb, beef, or sticky aubergine. By the way, I also went to Monsieur Vuong in Mitte, and it was quite disappointing. Neither the food, the staff, nor the ambiance was at the level.

Chipperfield Kantine
A minimalist cafe in Mitte designed by David Chipperfield, primarily serving as his studio canteen. However, it is also open to the public and offers simple, seasonal dishes daily.

Paris Bar
I can’t think of a better way to eat a bowl of Bouillabaisse than sitting in this place in front of Martin Kippenberger’s painting of the bar. Or, next to one of Cosima von Bonin’s rocket sculptures.

SWAY

My friend Maria recommended this natural wine bar on Pannierstraße. I loved the place, the food, and the people.

Bäckspace Pizza
Solid sourdough pizzas and foccacias. 10/10

You might want to visit some of the boring classics, the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and the Pergamon Museum (currently closed for renovations), among others. But if you come with me, I’d take you to:

James Turrell - Chapel Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof

This chapel at Dorotheenstädtischer Cemetery features a light installation by artist James Turrell at sunset. It offers a stunning experience that feels both psychedelic and spiritual. Booking a visit is must.

König Galerie

One of the best art galleries in Berlin. Originally a church designed by Werner Düttmann, this gallery is one of the most iconic examples of Brutalist architecture in Germany. The building features massive concrete blocks and exposed surfaces that reveal the grains of their original wood casts.

Check also the current exhibitions at some of my favourite galleries, Peres Projects, Esther Schipper, Sprüth Magers, Ulrich Fiedler and Galerie Max Hetzler.

Tchoban Foundation
If you are an architecture/design freak this is a great spot in Prenzlauer Berg. A museum focused on architectural drawing.

Liebermann Villa
The former summer house of painter Max Liebermann is a hidden gem situated on Lake Wannsee. Visit it in summer to see the garden in full bloom.

Sammlung Boros: Boros Collection
Hulking five-floor Nazi bunker turned Soviet prison turned nightclub turned art gallery.
The 80-room labyrinth holds part of the private collection of Christian and Karen Boros. This a unique opportunity to visit an actual war bunker plus one of the best contemporary art collections in Germany!

Reichstag
The roof and dome of the Reichstag Building can be visited and offers spectacular views of the city. This is one of the most important projects designed by Foster, symbolising the reunification of Germany.

+ almost all the parks in Berlin are stunning.

Cowshed
During my trip, a summer storm hit, so I took the chance to indulge in a manicure, pedicure, facial, salt scrub, and massage (best three hours of my life) Since the spa was inside the hotel, I relaxed in my room after, ordered some room service, and watched Sex and the City. It was an amazing experience—I definitely recommend it.

A trip to Berlin wouldn’t be complete without trying to get into Berghain, right? Let me just say, it lives up to all expectations, and more.

I have a thing for gnocchi. It's what we cook the most at home when we're slightly hungover; it's so easy and comforting to bite into those pillowy potato clouds. Yummm. (Im currently salivating)

I usually make them arrabbiata-style. Today, I wanted to try Ben Lippett’s recipe for a summery twist. It turned out so good. I adapted the recipe a bit and grilled asparagus and peas for a quick burst of flavor! You have to make this !

500g Fresh Gnocchi
160g Frozen Peas
Bunch of Asparagus
Bunch of Basil
3 Tbsp Crème Fraîche
80g Grated Parmesan
30g Unsalted Butter
Olive Oil
Lemon
Black Pepper
Salt

Add all but a handful of the frozen peas to a blender or pestle and mortar and pulse/smash until pulpy.

Trim and slice the asparagus, and roughly chop the basil.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, season with salt and blanch the gnocchi until they float to the top. Fish them out into a bowl and coat with a dash of oil.

Grab yourself a mugful of the cooking water and save that for later.

Grill the asparagus and that extra handful of peas for 1 min, set aside.

Now, heat a large frying pan over a high heat. Add a shot of oil and let that get nice and hot.

Add the gnocchi and cook until golden brown. Keep the gnocchi moving regularly.

Add the butter and cook until brown and the gnocchi is glazed and nut brown.

Add a splash of the cooking water, the smashed peas and the crème fraîche. Toss everything together to create a beautifully green sauce.

Season with salt and black pepper. Add lemon zest, parmesan, the grilled veg and chopped basil.

Keep tossing everything together until glossy and gorgeous! Adjust the seasoning if you need to.

Divide between warm plates, top with more parmesan and black pepper and enjoy.

Delicious with a powerful tomato flavour and a spicy kick… Here in its ‘Emergency’ version, meaning quick and easy for 2 people! (although, honestly, all of it is just for 1!)

• 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil

• 175g pancetta or guanciale, chopped

• 1/2 onion, finely chopped

• 1/2 garlic clove, finely minced

• 1/2 dried chilli pepper, chopped and deseeded (you can adjust the amount based on your spice preference)

• 60ml dry white wine (or white vermouth!)

• 225ml crushed tomatoes

• 225g pasta (Bucatini is classic for this recipe, but you can use any pasta you like)

• Parmesan or Pecorino cheese

1. Put the pancetta/guanciale and olive oil in a pan and sauté until crispy and browned. If using pancetta, I like to add a bit of pepper.

2. Add the onion and a pinch (minimal) of salt and sauté for about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and chilli. Cook for one more minute, then add the wine. Let the wine bubble and reduce it by half. Pour in the tomatoes and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Check if it needs salt or pepper; it's usually quite salty, so I typically don't add anything.

3. Cook your pasta in boiling salted water until al dente. Add the pasta to your pan with the sauce; I use tongs so some of the cooking water gets into the sauce as well. Combine everything and add a bit more cooking water if you think it needs it (be careful not to add too much). Toss everything together over the heat and add Pecorino or Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately with more cheese on top ❤️

2 large Pink Lady or Granny Smith apples (about 700grs)
42g unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 large egg
¼ cup (60g) heavy cream
1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry, thawed overnight in the refrigerator
Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
2/3 cup packed (148g) dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons almond butter
2 tablespoons white miso paste
All-purpose flour, for dusting
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Flaky sea salt

1. Preheat the Oven:

Position a rack in the centre of your oven.
Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Make the Almond Butter Frangipane:

Combine 1 tablespoon (14g) butter and 1/3 cup (74g) dark brown sugar in a medium bowl.
Using a rubber spatula, mix until homogeneous.
Add 3 tablespoons almond butter and 1 tablespoon white miso, mixing until well combined.
Add 1 egg, switch to a whisk, and whisk until incorporated.

3. Prep the Apples:

Cut the flesh from 2 large apples into 4 lobes, cutting around the core. Discard the cores.
Arrange the apple lobes, cut-sides down, on the cutting board.
Slice the apples lengthwise into 1/8-inch-thick pieces, keeping them arranged in their lobes for easy fanning.

4. Roll Out and Assemble:

Lightly flour your work surface.

Roll 1 thawed puff pastry sheet into a 9 × 13-inch rectangle using a wine bottle, cocktail shaker, or rolling pin.
Transfer the puff pastry to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
Spread the almond paste evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a ½-inch border.
Arrange the apple slices on the tart in a fanned pattern, leaving the ½-inch border.
Transfer to the fridge to chill for 15 minutes.

5. Make the Miso Glaze:

In a small saucepan, combine ¼ cup (60g) heavy cream, 1/3 cup (74g) dark brown sugar, 2 tablespoons (28g) butter, and 1 tablespoon white miso.
Cook over medium-low heat, swirling the pan frequently until the butter melts.
Whisk constantly until the mixture simmers, the sauce is smooth, and the sugar dissolves. About 1 minute.

Remove from heat and whisk in 1 teaspoon (5g) vanilla.

6. Glaze the Apples:

Remove the pastry from the refrigerator.
Using a pastry brush, generously brush the apples with the miso glaze. Reserve the remainder.

7. Bake:

Bake until the apples are softened, the almond paste puffs slightly, and the edges of the pastry are puffed and golden brown, 25 to 35 minutes.
Let cool.

8. Serve:

Just before serving, brush the apples with the remaining miso glaze. If the glaze is cold and thick, gently rewarm it over medium heat.

Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

Cut the pastry into squares and serve, preferably with vanilla ice cream.

Note:

The puff pastry must go into the oven as cold as possible.

Although I need to go back to write a proper guide, I did some good research to share all the places where I had breakfast :)

Lille Bakery One of the most famous (and beautiful) bakeries in CPH, the pastries are delicious, and so is the sausage roll. Nearby, you have a cool art centre (Copenhagen Contemporary), and if the weather is nice, there's an outdoor café/sauna called La Banchina that everyone recommends (it's on my bucket list).

Et cetera A Korean-inspired cantina where you can have breakfast or lunch; the noodles are fantastic. For breakfast, order the Egg Bap or the whipped yoghurt with sesame granola!

Apotek 57 This is the café of the design store Frama, very beautiful. They have the cardamom bun I liked the most in CPH, with a nutty touch and not overly sweet.

Studio Kitchen Scrambled eggs with chistorra. Trust me 🙂

Atelier September One of the most famous spots in CPH, there's always a line and the staff can be a bit strict, but their blueberry pancakes with whipped butter are perfect. Thick and fluffy at the same time. Avoid ordering bread with whipped butter, it's very creamy but quite bland.

Hart Bageri You will experience Nirvana when you eat their cardamom croissant; its shape is more like a kouign amann and it has so much sugar that I recommend sharing it with your best friend—it didn't sit well with me 🥹

Prolog Coffee If you're a coffee geek, this is your place, apparently the best in CPH. For a change, I ordered toast with butter and cheese, which is also very typical, and while it didn't blow me away, it was good!

Juno Bakery Another must-visit, their sourdough buns with cheese and butter are the best, and their famous cardamom buns were warm and fresh out of the oven (they started tasting like perfume to me, so I decided to stop). Also, try their buns filled with rhubarb and vanilla, a dream 🤪

These are my recommendations so far; I'll be back, but if you go before I do, please let me know about the places you enjoyed! ❤️

Filling:
500 grams of peaches
1/4 cup of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of sugar
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
2 tablespoons of cornstarch

Topping:
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
3/4 cup of milk (180ml)
85 grams of unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.

In a large bowl, add the sliced peaches, brown sugar, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch. Mix well and add the filling to the baking dish.

In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the milk, butter, and vanilla; mix and pour the topping over the filling. I like it when the peaches are not perfectly covered and peek through.

Bake for about 50 to 55 minutes, until the filling is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and serve hot with vanilla ice cream, crème fraîche, or whipped cream!
